Richly illustrated and beautifully published catalogue accompanying the exhibition “Ernst May (1886-1970). New cities on three continents “shown in the Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw from 24th March to 17th June 2012. The publication contains extensive texts on long and varied work by the outstanding architect and urban planner - from his years of education on the verge of the twentieth century to the design of large districts of West German cities in the 1960s. Among them is a fascinating story of the “New Frankfurt” housing estates and attempts to implement the modernist ideas in extremely different conditions such as great industrial centers of the Soviet Union and the colonial East Africa. The text is complemented by an extensive catalogue of projects and realizations of Ernst May in Silesia, including archival images and contemporary photographs of the preserved buildings.
