Although always in the shadow of Krakow and Lviv, Stanislaviv (today Ivano-Frankivsk) was one the largest centres of Galician culture. The author reviews the key architectural trends, styles and problems typical of European cities of the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries, and visible in the architecture, landscape and urban tissue of Stanislaviv. The book is richly illustrated, both with archival photographs and lithographs and contemporary pictures.
