This is the first proposal for a monographic description of Polish interiors of the Socialist Realist period. It presents a broad spectrum of realisations created for buildings of cultural institutions (theatres, cinemas, community centres), educational, service and recreational facilities, and, finally, government buildings. These are both interiors well known to today’s audiences and realisations that are hardly recognisable. The book shows how the doctrinal language, translated by artists - often rooted in modernism - into the language of artistic practice, produced forms fundamentally different from those officially postulated.
