Curatorial tour of the exhibition: INTERWOVEN. Barbara Brukalska, Helena Syrkus and the Networks of Modernism
Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 4 PM
The European modernist movement took shape through mutual relationships and a dense network of connections. This applied not only to architecture itself, but also to the lives of artists – both men and women – during the turbulent 20th century. The exhibition at the Museum of Architecture, which closes during the festival weekend, tells the intertwined stories of two key figures of the Central European avant-garde – Barbara Brukalska and Helena Syrkus.
The story of the exhibition’s protagonists encapsulates the complex situation of the architectural community before and after the war. It is a tale not only of friendship and faith in shared ideals, but also of a rift and differing attitudes towards political upheavals. Finally, it is about the search for one’s own way of realising the aspiration for architecture that is created in harmony with human needs and well-being.
