Museum of Architecture is a part of the European project UNICHE

2026-2029

After Athens and Florence, it’s now Wrocław’s turn! A week ago, Museum of Architecture in Wrocław hosted an international workshop as part of the EU-funded UNICHE project—a platform that combines the expertise of museum professionals with cutting-edge technologies!

The workshops, led by the The National Institute of Optics (Istituto Nazionale di Ottica, CNR-INO), were attended by representatives from several European institutions, including Museo Gallileo (Italy), Museotek (Greece), German Archaeological Institute’s Athens Department, as well as the architecture and design studio Miasto Pracownia (Poland). While working together, we discussed how to make a museum visit more interesting and interactive for visitors – how to design a virtual tour of an exhibition, which AI tools are worth using so that visitors can “enter” a reconstruction of a historical site and explore objects in VR space, and how to engage viewers so they can co-create the narrative of the exhibition.

During the workshops, we took on the roles of both scriptwriters, producers, and curators, as well as the audience. We will share the results of this “brainstorming session” with you in 2027—that is when the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław is set to present a mobile exhibition dedicated to endangered modernist buildings in Poland and Central Europe, using the tools and knowledge gained during the workshops.

What exactly is UNICHE? The main goal of the project is to enable museums, cultural institutions, researchers, and creators to design engaging and interactive experiences for audiences. From storytelling in AR/VR to digital twins and virtual exhibitions – through the skillful use of advanced technologies, cultural institutions and artists will be able to make their projects even more understandable and accessible.

The UNICHE project is being developed by a multidisciplinary team composed of IT experts, experienced exhibition and event curators, researchers specializing in cultural heritage preservation, and individuals who have been working on accessible culture for years. Thanks to the collaborative efforts and diverse perspectives of the project participants, it is grounded in real-world needs and aims to deliver effective solutions.
